Waka Waka, a lead single by Colombian singer Shakira featuring South African band Freshlyground was the official song for FIFA World cup 2010. The song had become a worldwide hit after its release on May 11 for digital download. The song was included in Shakira’s seventh studio album Sale el Sol and later on Listen up, the official 2010 FIFA World cup album. Shakira and Freshlyground have performed on the song at 2010 FIFA World cup Kick-Off concert and FIFA world cup final.

With the sales of 867,000 digital downloads the song had become best selling Latin Digital song of the year 2010. The song has become Shakira’s longest running number one in Spain with topping the chart for consecutive seventeen weeks from June to September. The song has become a worldwide hit with top positions in more than 21 countries. The song has become fastest and biggest selling single in the history of World cup with sales of over four million copies worldwide. The song has become most downloaded song of the year on Nokia OVI store along with more than 10000 downloads per day by Indian Vodafone Essar subscribers.
The theme of the song is based upon traditional African soldiers’ song named Zangalewa. The song was written and produced by Shakira and John Hill. The song represents the vitality and energy of Africa with rhythmic African sounds. The song is composed in the key of D-major with metronome of 128 beats per minute and Shakira’s vocal range spanning from low note of G3 to high note of A5. Some South Africans have complained that they would have liked a local singer to perform instead.

The music video of the song was released in 3D as well as standard definition. The video of the song was directed by Marcus Raboy, cinematographed by Christopher Probst, edited by Hal Honigsberg. Besides featuring Shakira wearing an Orange vest top, short black skirt and lots of colorful bracelets and flowers, Football players like Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Idriss Carlos, Rafael Marquez, and Lionel Messi also appears in the video. Footage from past world cups is also previewed in the video.
